What is a Doula? | Birth Doula | Postpartum Doula

“Doula” is a Greek word meaning “a women who serves or caregiver”. We are trained and experienced non-medical professionals who offer emotional and practical support to a woman (or couple) before, during and after childbirth. A doula believes in “mothering the mother” - enabling a woman to have the most satisfying and empowered time that she can during pregnancy, birth and the early days, weeks and months as a new mom. This type of support also helps the whole family to relax and enjoy the experience. A Doula recognizes birth as a key experience the mother will remember all her life and understands the physiology of birth and the emotional needs of a woman in labor.

Studies have shown that when doulas attend birth, labors are shorter with fewer complications, babies are healthier and they breastfeed more easily.
